What an insult to those people who are given a peerage for their public services. What did he do? Played croquet and played other games with Tracey Temple - in the office, not even in his own time. He should be ashamed, not enobled. Its a good arguement for getting rid of the Lords.

there are certain expenses involved

Lords' expenses claims top £18 million
Members of the House of Lords cost taxpayers more than £18 million in expenses and allowances last year - with some peers claiming £60,000 each in tax-free perks.

So they can afford not to have a salary.
Whilst you may criticise John Prescott he was not one of the bad guys as far as expenses are concerned and when he punched that heckler I would have done the same, whereas Michael Howard, John Gummer , Sir Michael Spicer and John Maples ripped off the tax payer for far more and have all been made peers.
The peers do claim many expenses including a clocking in allowance of £82 even if they then go straight out again to their club.

That says it all modeller, they get money for old rope, just a rip off coming out of tax payers money.
Of course not But who would like a sock on the jaw for telling him.
