Hi,
When becoming engaged is it common practice to buy a gift for your new fiance as a kind of 'Thank you for asking me to marry you, I love you' thing or should the 'YES' be a gift in itself?! What have any of you done in this situation? Thanks.

Emoire, there is no need to buy a gift for your fiance, your acceptance should be enough. You could buy a small token for your wedding, but again not necessary.
Why not just go out for a romantic intimate meal in a few weeks time, just to spend some time together?

Thanks for such speedy responses! I like the thought of taking him out for a romantic meal - we had talked about going out to celebrate but I think I could book somewhere nice and pick up the bill and it would go a small way of showing him how special he is :0) He proposed on our 7 year anniversary of when we met, it was a complete (but very lovely) surprise!
