does anyone have an opinion about these self service tills, I think if they are going to take over then i shall have to go to another supermarket. the ones in halifax seem to be taking over nightly one by one. i always seem to have to wait for an assistant sort us out thats when she has finished sorting everyone else out.

They used to be problematic at the Tesco's around here but have been a lot better in the last few months.

The main downside to them nowadays is that some people are so ssslllloooowwww using them.

My local Sainsbury`s have just introduced them. I`ve used them 4 times and had problems twice so 50% isn`t very good. I got a feedback form from customer services. Their problem seemed to be that when there was an offer such as 2 for 1 you couldn`t tell if you had got the discount until you had paid and got the receipt. Low and behold, the discount hadn`t gone through and I had to go to customer services. Would be useless for someone like my Mum as well who is elderly and can`t see! They`re Ok as long as they don`t take over which they will probably do as they are cheap and all supermarkets think about is profit
I prefer to use them. I don't really like going to check outs if I've only got a few bits and these are conveniant and quicker for me to use.
Hi grannie39, I must admit that I use them in preference to the normal checkout. I take my time tho and don't get flustered if someones standing behind me tutting plus it never gets old when some wee guy asks for your age when buying vino (in my dreams)
people steal when using them....my friend scans everything as carrots....!
And the people who "man" them are so slow that it takes longer than ever!!!!
I think they are okay unless you are buying alcohol or CD's. I had to wait a good 5 minutes for a supervisor to arrive to check I was over 18 to buy a case of beer. At 59 I don't think I look under 18.
How can you scan everything as carrots? Theres a weigh thingy and it weighs the items?
I've only use them when I have only one or two items. It crossed my mind that it would be easy to cheat using them. I prefer to use the regular checkout.
When you use one of these tills, remember that it's there to replace somebody in a job. Tesco already make massive profits, but it doesn't seem to be enough.
