Warning Light

My son has a 52plate Focus,returning home the other day he first noticed his electric warning light was on.The car then stopped and all the lights on the dash came on,then the electrics failed completely.His local garage said his battery had failed.and it also wanted an alternator.The car nows runs alright except the red light is on.An auto electrician has said there is nothing wrong with the electrics and the car is charging at around 14volts.Apart from taking out the bulb,any ideas.

Not probably what you want to hear but it sounds like a trip to the dealers to be hooked up to the diagnostic machine checked out and re set.
