But there are some strict guidelines with this and you would have to be paying tax for less than 2 years and you were resident for less than 2 years. If you qualify for a refund you may not enter employment in the Uk for a further 2 years. Your local tax office will be able to guide you.
National insurance contributions are not refundable.
Note - what jimmer said is correct, but don't forget that that doesn't mean you'd get a full refund.
The tax and NI you paid was for public goods that are not funded any other way. You enjoyed them while you lived here and so it's only fair that you contribute the correct amount towards these services.

you certainly dont need to pay tax in Azania on your UK income if you have paid a whack here. That is the point of the double taxation treaties.
However Check your PAYE - If for example you have only worked April, May -that is the first two months of the new tax UK year, Then the first �5 000 is still tax free and you will be looking at a rebate.
But if your last month you worked is March - which is month 11 in the tax year, then your taxable income is gonna be much more than �5 000, and this effect is not seen.
