Install a spam filter. We have it as part of our Norton package and it sends nearly all my spam emails straight into my spam box, where I can delete without having to open.
Go to your ISP's webmail page and check to see if it can be intercepted there. With many ISP's, it can .. like Orange.
Save downloading most of it to start with!
The other thing is to change your mail settings so that it will only retrieve mail addresses to the full address .. not just anyone after the "@"
In Outlook Express, for instance .. In Tools,Accounts/Server, place in full email address. This is fine for single account.
This will intercept all your mail before it arrives in your mailbox. SPAM will be highlighted for deletion and other mail listed too. You can manually check any other items for deletion then download what's left to OE. Open Mailwasher as soon as you switch on your PC and it monitors your mail all day and advises when you have new mail.
"ISP's have a lot better system to intercept mail, these days. I strongly suggest you check it out."
I agree. My ISP, BT, intercepts quite a bit of my spam, but some gets through and Mailwasher picks up most of that. I wouldn't be without it, and I use the free version.
