I never use my given first name - Christine. Well only on official paperwork cos I have to. Didn't really have a choice as my parents always called me Janet. Janet is my middle name and I hate it so insist on Jan. Why do parents give you one name and then call you another?

Calling your kids by their middle name is common in Irish families. They have a tendency to name their kids after their siblings. They also had a tendency to have lot's of kids...so lot's of cousins with the same name.

I've said this before....My Grandads real name is Chestnut. Poor thing...lol
