We're off for the day tomorrow (Thurs) haven't made our minds up where in Essex to go. I like antiques might go to an auction. Hubby likes Leigh on Sea, nice plate of cockles? Anyone got any sugestions. Hubby says NO shopping. Awww!
A pretty village? interesting museums?, nice Pub Grub.? A few ciders in a nice setting?
Anyhow, what part of Essex, it's a fairly large place and you are not seeing the best of it around southend way!
If you want decent seafood get over to Mersea island and visit the company shed (you'll need to bring your own bread, wine and condiments but the seafood is the best ever)
I DON'T want to go to Southend, I already live there I want to get out into the Essex countrydide.
(The airport cafe is a serve yourself. Machines)
(Highgate Ave is demolished, blocks of flats now)
No it's not Highgate it's heigate I think, it's a sloping street with an entrance to Debenhams at the top end. His family owned the Kersal and the arcades on the pier
if you come this way towards north Essex a bit then Colchester is OK for shopping, Mersey Island has good seafood, Dedham vale (constable country) is really pretty and you can get a rowing boat out on the river, Go a little bit further out then Long melford is a nice village with some antique shops (though it's actually in Suffolk)
about 10 years ago Coggeshall was the main antiques place in Essex, but pretty much all the antique shops have gone now.
Thankyou Chris & Rowen, We had thought of Battlesbridge, we have been before but yonks ago, its certainly something I would like to do, and there's a pub there that does an excellent roast.
Youe sugestion CF sounds lovely but, I'm not sure whether I could get my mobility scooter in a rowing boat. We like Mersey, we had our 30th wedd/anni in a hotel there.
Perfect. Dot. sorry I got it wrong. I live 15 min car ride from Kursal
Thankyou for all your comments folks.
Sorry Jem, I hadn't read Chuck's post. If you do fancy further afield and make it to Long Melford, hop along to Lavenham. Knocks LM into a cocked hat. The Swan (I think!) or The Great House are fantastic for lunch (the latter is quite pricey though).
