My Dad doesn't know when my birthday is?!?!
31 Answers
Not been on for a while so firstly, hi everyone! :)
Secondly, I have recently started talking to my father after 10 years of not having any contact, I was 15 when we last talked. He emailed me today asking when my birthday was... is it me over reacting or should he not know when the birth of his daughter was?! Or is it just a case of men being crap with dates?

There are two ways of looking at this situation ~ you can take it as an insult and hold it against him or you can think 'well at least he cares enough to ask'. The choice is yours hun.
Incidentally my (estranged) father can't even spell my name which is only 5 letters long so hey ho it could be worse =)

I think your dad is making an effort and he's going to make a hell of a lot of mistakes in doing so. My dad wasn't part of my life for a few years (quite a while ago) and it was difficult enough for him to get back on track for a few years, I can't imagine how hard it would be for a ten year lapse. I would try and focus on the positives more than the negatives adn pick your battles. I would class a question about your birthday and a mistake in photos as a battle worth having but obviously that is subjective.
However, if you dwell too much on the negative, then you can never move forwards with the positive stuff. He's making an effort, he's going to cock up, make a fuss when he cocks up something worth making a fuss about. Good luck.

To be honest, it's always been the women in our family that have had to remember birthdays etc. My son still isn't sure about the date of mine and asks me every year. Mr LL is not given a chance to forget! Neither of them ever think about anybody else's birthday although I should think my son might just know roughly when his partner's birthday is. I wouldn't be at all upset at a fella not remembering my birthday - I take it as normal.
