Prior to the film 'Blood Diamond', did anyone here know of the phrase, and subsequently, have you all taken your jewellery back to H.Samuel, Tiffany or wherever you purchased them to get their provenance verified?
Prior to the film I had yes. Alas, I don't own any diamonds (I don't think) as my preference is towards rubies. Can you get blood rubies? (I think I'd like that colour).
Yes I have heard of "blood" Diamonds - However as a tool to buy weapons of war diamonds are fairly recnt so is the term.
You don't have to prove provenance dealers do, they have to buy from countries that are part of an internatonaly accredited scheme, that certificates the authenticity and orogin of any diamonds. Huge fines are levied against those that cannot prove the diamons origin.
Yes I knew the phrase - and no I haven't taken my diamonds back. Some are certificated anyway, but if they weren't what good would taking them back to the shop do me?
Before the film yes, but not until 2004,I remember the holiday I was on when I read an article about it but baring in mind I have only one diamond ring and it's from sri lanka I didnt go and get it verified. I can't imagine many people who don't have ties to africa somehow would have known about it. the film i thought was bloody awesome though.
