Ban earphones while cycling?

In light of this tragic accident, isn't it now time for the banning of these headsets while cycling?

Not only cyclists but perhaps pedestrians also?

Or ban bicycles, that would solve the problem. Alternatively, you could ban the large lorry that this particular person cycled in to.

Why is the first reaction always to ban something?

We say banning but that's shorthand for making something against the law. This has more aspects than one. Firstly it underlines to most people that its not a good idea. secondly (and I agree its not as easy as all that) there can be a sanction applied to people who continue to do it. Thirdly when someone does do it, is hit or hits something and is killed or injured as a result, the blame does not lie entirely with the the other driver which is fair.

There is another view which says that anyone who is stupid enough be cycling along in their own little world for whatever reason deserves what they get!!!!
