Spiders

I amnot really a big fan of spiders although I would never harm one. I currently have one in my bathroom. Doesn't really cause many problems as it only comes out at night and always stays in the same place. Ususally I would try catch them and throw them outside but my reasoning is that if I left it there no more spiders would come in through the fan in the bathroom as I heard spiders are terratorial. Is this true? Also I can't see anything in the web as far as flys go. Does this mean the spider will look for another location?

depends on the type of spider I guess - how big is it and what's the % of venemous spiders around your area ??

people think we don't have any in england, but they are here.

Researchers believe arachnids arriving in imports of food and plants are now able to survive and spread thanks to the UK's increasingly mild climate.

The new inhabitants include a species of false widow spider and some believe the deadly black widow could be next to invade.

Conservation group Buglife wants import rules to be strengthened to stem the tide of alien species invasion.

we have some beauts here in oz - funnel webs and redbacks, but we have a huntsman who comes in occasionally and keeps the flies down - they're no great prob unless they decide to jump on you, then its shriek time !!

seekerz I just google poisonous spiders here and its a bit worrying. I havent looked too closely but it is black and wikipedia says there is black widows here in Egypt. I think I will be hoovering it up when I get home definitely.

I live on the Romney Marsh in Kent and share house with enormous spiders - had one last night the size of a beer mat - tend to leave them as there are lots of mossie around and they help out with that.

The easiest way to catch any small creature especially one that may sting or bite is to drop or place a cloth like a handkerchief over it then gently crumple it under from the edges so that the creature is trapped in the folds. Then take it outside and shake it free. This works on the following... wasps,hornets, bees, moths, butterlies, crickets, grasshoppers, spiders, millipedes, beetles,small lizards and dopy flies. I've been using this method for years and so far no casualties.

Time to implement the old Dyson.. I have no qualms about hoovering up the critters... Or sending in the Perry.. he'll soo see them off!!!

jomifl thats what I usually do but after looking at wikipidia and reading about black widows I think it is going to be the hoover this time.

I use the draining spoon for vegetables -by the time they have sorted out their legs in the holes you can flick them out of the bedroom window. I have been told that conkers keep spiders away, so have now got a collection of them on the window sills.
