If you are talking about using Microsoft OUTLOOK, then this is how i do it:
1. Make sure you are able to see hidden folders. (In a folder, goto the Tools menu; View...then a checkbox "show hidden files and folders).
2. Goto your drive where Windows is installed and go through the folder until you find this one "Outlook".
It should be here:
C:\Documents and Settings\*USER*\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\
or something similar.
Copy this folder to a cd as you wanted to.
Then, to load it back to the laptop:
1. Install Office.
2. Load up Outlook and then cancel any account setup. Then exit.
3. Find the location that you copied the Outlook folder from before.
4.Delete the folder that is already there named "outlook" as this has none of your data in it.
5. Paste the folder you copied into exactly the same place as you took it from in the old computer.
6. When you load Outlook, all contact and emails should be in place.
You will still have to setup your email addresses.
