connecting a tv, digibox and vcr/dvd

Can anyone help me with connecting these pieces of equipment. I have connected them as per the dvd box instructions with both arial wires and skarts. The vcr and dvd will both play when a disc is put in as I can see the timing going on the display. The picture will not show on the TV, the channel being received goes off as though the DVD is going to play, then the channel comes back on. The TV has an AV channel through which these are supposed to play but nothing. What am I doing wrong. The TV is one of those small ones that can also be used as a PC monitor, would this have anything to do with it.

That's a very helpful link thank you. In fact, after much messing about and trying these same connections with a TV, digibox and old VCR that we have in another room, I think its possible the digibox is not working at all in which case running everything through it is not going to work. I am going to disconnect the whole thing and leave the box out and see what happens.
