Asking NHS to Pay

I asked a while ago about having excess hair removed and have decided that laser removal is probably the best option for me. Having looked up rough prices of it, it's not something I would usually be able to afford but I may be getting a bit of a bonus at xmas and if it's enough thought I might put it towards the treatment, however someone has suggested to me that I go back to my Doctor and ask for it to be done under the NHS. My initial reaction was that I couldn't ask for the NHS to pay for that but am intrigued as to what others view points are. Would you do it or do you think it's wrong?

I have PCOS although am lucky to be fair haired. I have an epilator that I got particularly because it came with a facial hair remover attachment. It's not exactly a glamourous thing to admit but it's damn functional and I don't want my confidence suffering because I get hair in unusual places, life is too short!

Makes perfect sense Wolf. More than I usually do.

What kind of treatment do you have and how often do you have to have it? My concern is if there is going to be a continual large expense I won't be able to keep on affording it.

My first three treatments were the treatments that got rid of most of the hair. I think that the treatments were about £130 each.

I now pay about £50 every couple of months to try and get rid of the rest - but they are really fine hairs and do not cause much of a problem.

Try the treatment and see how you get on - you can then decide whether to continue with the treatment.

Good luck with the treatment - it hurts but it is worth it.

I've tried all the other hair removal but the only one that works long term for me is plucking. I used to wax which worked but you have to let it grow in order to get it waxed and since being with my bf I would hate for him to see it. I am sure he has in the 3 years together but he's just been too nice to mention it.

I would be happy to go through the pain and having to let it grow if the laser treatment is a good long term/permanent method.

Why don't you treat yourself to one of these? You could then treat yourself at home so there would only be the cost of the initial outlay. It has had very good reviews from many of the well known women's magazines and websites.

Ooops, forget that product. I just noticed it can't be used for facial hair :(
