I may get a cat, Tom is 13 now and is getting on,
dotty-get a rescue Greyhound-they are placid dogs, need just 2 walks a day....and sleep for England. There is nothing they like better than your sofa. Most are 3-4 years old-so well past the puppy stage.
If your son is home during the early part of the day-he can do the morning walk....and the dog ( or any dog/breed )would not be alone all day.

Aaw Dot .It is sad . I still chat to Shaney in his box in the front room and I'm sure he's behind me at times :) .
No more dogs for us though .Getting too old and it's too much of a commitment .I've had a lot of aggro lately and I couldn't have coped with having to look after a dog as well.
but .......never say never :))

I'm still talking to Bingo and my kids think I'm doolali but can't kick the habit! We went to his grave yesterday and it is looking good, should be nicelt overgrown in spring and so won't draw too much attention, though the regular dog walkers have started putting christmas decorations on the branches of the tree that overhang it, it's a fave doggie walk and so lots seem to have taken to stopping and reading the stone.
One thing about greys and lurchers...they are excellent at 'folding' them selves into small packages-especially on the sofa!
I had considered a staffie-but decided they are a bit too energetic.....the ones I see when out with Sally are all manic...lol
I still miss the mongrel my ex and I had-it's been 5 years. And I still think of the huge black cat we'd brought with us from the US over 20 years ago. They really stick in your heart.
