MoT testing of vehicles supplied directly by a test centre to its customers is outside the scope of VAT, provided the statutory maximum fee is not exceeded.
If you're being charged VAT on an MOT test you should find another garage!

A 2.5% increase in VAT puts actual prices up by 2.1%.

Even if MOTs were subject to VAT, it would not be worth doing it early to save such a small amount.
Got there before me, Hopkirk - about £1 saved?
.... and a month lost
You can renew your MOT up to one month before it expires without affecting your annual expiry date. You can find out when the earliest date to MOT your vehicle is by checking the front of the pass certificate.
Fair point.
MOT's are exempt from V.A.T.
Yes, we got that from the first answer.....!

thanks, will have a look at the certificate.
Also , if you pay full price you are nuts anyway!
Shop around the MOT price is a MAX price only. Kwik Fit for instance are doing them at £30 if you book on line.

Now normally I would not go near a Kwik Fit but I also got another £5 off due to Capital One card loyalty offer. I thought theuy would fail it but they didnt.
The tyres need changing and are on the limit (I am planning to change them early Dec when I get some dosh), but they simply issued an advisory. They are legal- just.
