I think your best bet is a convector heater with a thermostat, they're not so expensive to run, as you can set the temp, and then it will switch on and off when need be, I would look at maybe Currys, Comet and so on for the best offers..............

my friend uses a halogen heater, try argos, and they deliver.

You need to start by deciding which type of heater is best for your needs.

For the fastest heat you can't beat a fan heater. The principal downside is that you have to live with the noise of the fan. (Also, having owned loads of fan heaters over the years, I've never found one with a really good thermostat, for controlling the heat output).

Fan heaters are fairly cheap. Argos will sell you a 2kW model for £12.99. That would probably be good enough to heat a small room but a 3kW model (£22.99 from Argos) might be better for larger rooms or for really cold weather. I've deliberately not recommended any particular brand; I've tried several different makes, with the conclusion that simply going for the cheapest model available is probably the best advice.

I've never been a great fan of convector heaters. They don't seem to be as efficient as fan heaters yet they often cost more. If you're going to spend extra money I'd recommend opting for an oil-filled radiator. 2kW models start from £54.99 in Argos but you'll need to pay well over £100 for a 3kW model.

A fine statement that neglects to point out that it is because they don't throw out so much heat. Electric heaters are pretty much equally as effective to converting electricity into heat, it is a simple case of physics.

This might be a pointless comment as I can't remember the make of it but before we had the heating system put in the office we used some electric heaters that not only pumped out a decent amount of heat but they also had a safety mechanism on them which meant if you touched the casing of the heater it would immediately turn itself off. If you have children around this could be something worth looking for.

i have a 3kw delonghi oil filled one , takes a while around 15mins to get any heat out if it but then its great for long periods of use even on constantly, i also have a large standard fan thats hidden behind furniture set on the slowest speed facing up to circulate the heat better around the room as hot air rises

I agree with Chris that a cheap fan-heater is a good standby for topping-up heat in all sorts of situations - look for cheapest in Argos. Or, on Monday. Lidl has a ceramic fan-heater with 3year warranty for £11.99.

Dimplex Oil Filled Radiator. Thermostat and timer. £65.00 and it heats up really quickly. I got mine at Homebase.
