There have been cases of ocean dwelling whales swimming up rivers into fresh water and living quite happily for many weeks. If a normal salt water fish did the same thing, its cells would explode.
There are rare cases of whales existing in brackish (though not, I believe or can't find reference to, fresh) water for a few weeks, but don't forget in the mythical flood, just because the waters receeded after 40 days, they wouldn't have quickly returned to their previous salinity levels.
Of course, that wouldn't be the only problem for our poor cursed whales - their food source would have died as a consequence of the same factors for a start.
Like I said before, it's but one objection to an entirely silly story.

All this talk about whales has me thinking about how all the creatures might be fed. I mean, it wouldn't have been just bales of hay, fresh worms, live mice, and a plentiful supply of mosquitos for the bats Noah would have needed, The seals would want fresh fish, as would the polar bears, I guess, and the big cats would want quite a few zebra or antelope to tide them over the 40 day duration of the flood, so thinking about it, Noah would have had to have taken an enormous quantity of animals on board just the provide those he was commanded to save from the flood with the fresh food they needed to survive. However big the boat, I think we need a bigger one.
Tut! He wouldn't have done that Waldo. He likes to see people suffer. I mean, let's face it, he didn't even lend Noah a hand to build the ark - didn't so much as bang a nail in - and it was really big you know. Must have taken poor old Noah ages! ;o)
Beso, I'm not sure I want to contemplate that. Fabreeze? Oust? I don't think so!
