can someone please help settle an argument.....a person we work with has been driving around for about 3 years with no insurance tax or MOT ( yes we too are flabberghasted that she has never been stopped!) the reason being that she moved house about 2 years ago and never let the dvla know of her change of address so any fines or correspondance would have gone to her old address. Apart from the fact that we are all disgusted with this person and have told her.. one or two of us have rang the poilce and the dvla and given her new address but nothing has ever been done!

My argument is that she could now be disqualified from driving without knowing because the court summons (which she would not have attended) and the following disqualification notification would have gone to her old address.. my colleague argues that she would have to appear in court first to be disqualified is this true?

new rules have come in and she could well be on her way to being disqualified!

DVLA Notice

Section 99 Revocations
This is to inform you of changes to DVLA procedures when dealing with drivers who have failed to surrender their licences to the court or DVLA to have penalty points endorsed on their licence.

It happened to the bloke over the road from me as well. The tax was out by 2 months...I didn't see a notice put on the car. They just came and towed it.

Poor bloke though....he had his house repossessed a few months after that. I'll give him dues though...he never drove it from the day it ran out of tax.

mrs overall.... if you read my posts you will see tht the home address and the work address was given so if the car was not at one it would be at the other..... neither the dvla or the police have done anything about it!
Ring the police again and tell them you want to make a complaint about them not taking any action!
sorry nadine

I'll take myself off to the naughty step
If she hasn't taxed it, or declared it SORN, she would be fined by post.

You can check if it is taxed here

ummmm... you first answer was that you havent changed the address on you licence since youve had it.. have you moved address? because if you have then you are too breaking the law.. "

Not so.

Neither your driving licence nor your V5 have to have your home address on. The statutory requiremnt is that you must be contactable via the given addres.

surely she would have to show her licence if she is having a company car and verify the address which she obviously cant do if she has moved
You must remember there is a shortage of Police nowadays, only yesterday at our Local Shopping Estate there were ONLY 28 Policemen( I kid you not) checking Tax Discs on Shoppers cars which were parked in Bays. Nice to know they have their priorities right, wouldn't you say.!!
