Inviting a celebrity?
7 Answers
Does anyone ever have any luck with an appeatance of a celebrity they have invited to attend their charity do?
I just wondered as my charity is having a fundraising event of a Jamie at Home party and wondered if it was worth having a punt on inviting him?
Do they (celebs) ever agree to go? agree at the last minute or even just turn up?
Or Do they only go to the charity dos they are paid to go to or ones they have booked for a long time or one's that give them a lot of media coverage?

Most of them politely decline (or say nothing) but have often provided a raffle prize instead, such as signed rugby balls, shirts, match tickets. He asked Ken Bruce, who lives nearby to attend something recently. He got a reply saying he has to limit himself to a number of events each year but he will try to make sure he can attend next year if bro gets in early enough.
This might help, but remember the fee will be very high.

As advised, it is a matter of time for most ceclebs - who could spend every day at one function or another.
The earlier you can request - and that means years in some cases - the better the chances, but you have to accept that for most celebs, they simply do not have the time to accept every invite they get.

Over here (Ibiza) in the early 80's, Julie Goodyear (Bet Lynch) was flown over free by Thomsons, accomodated for free, so she could appear at some charity do (can't rmember which) but although she didn't get paid, her demands (dress hotel etc) were so outrageous that she cost the charity an absolutely fortune. since then we've only used the celebs who live here are who are known to be reliable ie Nina van Pallandt, and John Hurt.
