I've been using the above contracptive for about 4 years now and it's worked really well for me, espcially as it means not having to remember a pill every day but it doesn't seem a hugely popular method and I just wondered why really. Am I missing something?
I was on it for a few years and went from a size 14 to a size 20/22, when I came off I dropped down to a 16! Weight gain is a popular side effect for many people and may be why it is not so popular, than and it can take a while for some to get back into a regular cycle.
Apart from the weight gain I had no problems and do not recall any bleeds at all.
I remember when I first went on it my Doctor made a huge point of telling me that the depo itself will not make you gain weight. He said it may increase your appetite but it's up to you what you eat. Not saying you are wrong, that's just what he told me.
I can't say I have had any issues with weight gain. In fact I lost a about 2 stones without even really trying at one point. Although that is slowly creeping back on thats more to do with me becoming very lazy.
I think it is a brilliant idea..coming from a generation where there were very few alternatives.Regarding weight gain my daughter says it's made her arrse huge!!
Maybe Depo wasn't directly responsible for me gaining weight but if a consequence of taking it is an increase in appetite then it is inevitable that weight will be gained unless more energy is expended. I'm not sure which I fancy less, being hungry all the time or having to run an extra two miles a day!
It seems I was luckier than some and the weight just disappeared, according to one website others have had huge problems shifting their weight after Depo.
I think the implant is a better option I have had the injections and also the marina coil but settled with the implant less painful than the coil on insertion and the injection is having to go to docs every 12 weeks an also injection causes havoc after coming off and up to a year for fertility to come back where implant is immediate fertility after removal
I would strongly advise only sleeping with men who have been sterilized. Then you will not have to remember anything to take, or worry about any weight gain.
Oh really, well I just need to say that I had this little op done in November 2002, and it did not hurt a bit. I had to walk through fire to get it done due to my tender years, but the entire human race will not die out due to my inability to reproduce, will it?
So come on then all you men who are scared of this minor operation, don't delay, if you are considering it then go for it. It does not hurt a bit. By the way giving blood does not hurt either. See link below:
I had it for four years and it was fine then the weight piled on over 2 months and poured off when I stopped it. A mate of mine who was four foot nothing and like a rake (ex teen acrobat, then in her thirties) tried it and in a 3months she looked like Sophia Loren. Her DH loved it but the mood swings and boob tenderness were horrendous. Tbh I think the gp who said whether or not you put on weight is up to you was talking our of his arris
