This was once used by then Radio One DJ Peter Powell on his "SelectaDisk" quiz which was broadcast at Friday teatime to round of his week on the air.
People had to phone in, answer a question (which was the name of a group desribed cryptically) and their prize for getting it right was... to choose a song to be played!
I remember being really chuffed when I worked this one out, although it didn't have the "80s" bit on the end as it was the 80s then.
