I have medium brown hair that goes just below my shoulder and I just tried dying it with medium ash blonde dye. From the root to about halfway down I have managed to achieve a brown colour with ginger tint! The rest is fine and came out the colour that it should have been (I had highlights growing out of this section of hair).

How do I rectify this? The hairdressers are closed tomorrow and I have to be in work on Monday so need it sorted tomorrow lol. I'm going to have to buy another box of dye... what colour do I go for now?

Thanks redhelen, think I will go for a darker brown! I haven't used a home dye for years and years because this is what happened last time I did it!! :-S
It has lifted a lighter tint on your natural hair so apply more Ash blonde all over. Leave the tint on for 40mins (20mins under hood-dryer) before you rinse off & condition.

Thanks tamborine, are you sure it won't go an orange colour though? I think I did this before (can't remember what shade though) and I vaguely remember it went bright orange lol
how dark is your natural hair ? If you apply a darker tint its likely to go green/khaki
Question Author
It is a medium sort of brown, slightly darker than mousy brown
Go for an auburn/mahogany; around No.5-6 to tint warmer. Shelf products are not strong enough for blondes & Ash.

If you want an Ash No.9+ you really need professional products.

Thanks tamborine. Do you think 106A Natural Dark Blonde would fix it? http://www.clairol.co...iceneasy/shade-chart/
no...that's too light for home tints. This would be better to cover your error

118E Natural Medium Mahogany Brown
I can't give you much advice but thought it might make you feel better if I said I've done the same thing.

An ex kept mentioning (while we were together, not that sad haha) that he liked blond hair (needless to say, that relationship is long since over) so I did similar with a pre lightener.

Had to run out before the shops shut in a hat and buy a dark colour to go all over and had, rather fortuitously, booked in for a trim the next day. It took them 3 hours to fix, they had to get all the dye out then put another colour on top, it wasn't pretty...or cheap...never tried that one again :)

Will try that one then tamborine, thank you :)

Haha Jenna, so glad its not just me!
I'm on FB if you need advice what pro tint you need to go from dark to light.

Not necessary to strip colors, you just add the tint you want but the Releaser has to be the correct strength, depending on the original color. At the most it takes 40mins to tint.
Nope :) The classic moment was going to meet my ex from work after the initial incident and his boss looking at me and remarking "oh, you've dyed your hair"...oh he had no idea lol :)

Haha! Glad I can say its only a hint of ginger not full on like Ronald McDonald lol!
Go for a quick fix: get a darker dye that goes away with washing. As soon as the hairdressers is available go for a more permanent fix.
