thought id start my own!

first of all, middle names - pointless or a nice addition?

secondly - if youve given your children middle names, did you consider their initials? is there something else id need to think of - dont want poor child with initials or a nickname because of my stupidity!

My two had original first names and family middle names. Yes I did an initial check. Son in law and grandson share same initials. Found a feminine equivalent for daughter's middle name based on deceased (war death) grandfather's middle name.

My daughters are Natasha Louise and Sawyer Gardner (first one honours grandma and from the other side grandpa, the second my father who dies years back). And yes Sawyer was used for a girl's name. Have heard of two other girls since she was born called it......

You also need to consider 1st name initial with surname. Especially if 1st name starts with A. Also, 1st name with initial of surname, as these combinations often used in schools/preschools. eg: A Tree or Adam P (a damp)

My middle name is elizabeth, i think its good to have a middle name, they stand out from some names as long as its not louise as a middle name, i swear most girls do have it as a middle name x

My eldest son's middle name is Iain - my OH and both had brothers called Ian who died so we wanted to represent them but changed the spelling to the Gaelic one. His initial are CIM, second son's middle name is Alastair, just because we liked it and his initials are CAM. Having a middle initial helps if you want a private number plate. In my family we were all given our own first names but middle names tended to be after someone in the family. Except for mine as the youngest of 7 I think she ran out of names she liked so my mums neighbour chose mine which is Lindsay.

To Zzxxee, my doll of my childhood was called Rosebud, because I looked on her back and the makers name said Rosebud!

and to Ummm, I named my daughter Samantha after the midwife, so not an uncommon thing to do.

My names are Kathryn and Jean......don't think my parents knew they were giving birth to a child and not an old woman!! I dislike both equally as much :o(

Grasscarp - I wasn't named after the midwife. She actually named me because my Mum hadn't picked a name. So she said, we'll call her Karen for the time being. And it stuck..

My first stepgrandaughter's surname is Hunt. I had to explain to her mother why it wasn't such a good idea to call her Brooke.....

My cousins married name is Hagger and her initial is S.Hagger...lol

But what my parents didn't consider was my surname at birth - Woods.

Tree-in-a Woods, geddit?!! I had a few mickey takes over that one.

Heard of a girl called Polly Rack....which is fine except for the fact that she had two middle names which were Ester and Anna so her full name was Polly Ester Anna Rack!

My mam gave me the middle name of Dale after the midwife that delivered me. Thank Christ her name wasn't Frankenstein (although my sis said she did look like her!) I named my kids after sportsmen, although OH didn't twig, I once knew a girl called Vicky Smith who later married a Davies - poor lass lol

My mum "blessed" me with 2 middle names - Ann and Louise. Not long after she passed away my OH and I were told we would not be able to have a baby without IVF and decided we didn't want to go through that, so I changed my middle name to Gloria, after my mum instead of having a child and naming it after her. I think middle names are a handy way of squeezing parents/grandparents names into a child's name without having to actually name the child after them.
We've changed our minds about the IVF and decided to go for it after all, i was only saying earlier that i like the name Parker as a girl's name, and we could give it the middle names Edith and Evelyn after our grandmas, but now i realise that the child's initials would be PEED, which is perhaps not such a good idea...

i know someone who was named lee, when they was born. then as she was a very small baby everyone started calling her weelee. so her mother named her after bob dylans wife, in addition to lee as her first name, so then much later a rather large corporate company in the states called their cake company the same name, with the same spelling, so we started calling her the nickname cheesecake. they have an even bigger corp now. and the name is on certain bath products etc.
