Just finished ploughing through Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell. I used to really like her books, but they have become quite strange of late. This one seemed to be written in a depressing sort of a way, quite confusing and dull.
Is it me?

Not just you .I've given up on her. Her last few books have been total rubbish .
When Benton Wesley miraculously reappeared after being killed they began to smack of Dallas .
Rambling plots and unbelievable characters ,like a soap opera.
Kathy Reichs is going the same way .Good job I reserved her latest at the library instead of shelling out .It was a load of twaddle .

Thanks for the feedback. Glad I'm not alone.
I'm pleased to read this thread too.
I've thought that about Patricia Cornwell for a while now. Unbelievable and dull.
I've given up reading Kathy Reichs......formulaic and really boring now.
Shame as I used to enjoy both of them and look forward to their books.

I've just started the new Kathy Reichs - I'll let you know!
What about Jonathan Kellerman? I still like him, and Michael Connelly.
I'm glad it's not just me, I actually read the last few paragraphs to see if I could make heads or tails of the book and it was rubbish, I also found with Kathy Reichs, I had to skip loads of forensic terminology, which was boring, Karin Slaughter and Karen Rose are both good reads though
I agree her books are getting less inspiring, port mortuary is written in the first person so the book suffered accordingly I gave up half way through will not buy any more by her
I agree have turned to Nicki French....try her
I gave up on Clive Cussler, it just seemed that he kept a pro-forma script and inserted the plot lines. Lazy. The last Lee Child book was also a departure from his usual ones, can't remember the name of it offhand.

Am finding the new Kathy Reichs much more enjoyable, she does use a lot of jargon but tends to explain it, and there is a sense of humour there too.
I gave up on Cornwell a while ago too. When she switched to the third person the books went really downhill. I am interested to read Rickoshea's comment that she is back to the first person. But I won't bother to give her the chance now as I think she's completely lost her edge.
