community farms
Not entirely sure if this is the right area to post this in, but here goes:
Does anyone know anything about community farms and the criteria/legislation behind them? I vaguely remember this from one of the river cottage programs where Hugh had a local council turn over a patch of disused land to the community to grow their own produce. We have a similar patch of empty land where I live but I have no clue whether it's something we could ask the council about. Google hasn't been much help, there seems to be a few community farms up and running, but I can't seem to find anything that shows how a community can go about setting one up for themselves, and my own local council's website is no help either.
Thanks

If I recall the program - they were keeping livestock as well? Is that your proposal as well? I thought the livestock thing was more for the TV cameras!! But if you just wanted a community allotment, I would have thought that gathering a list of interested residents, to show what the level of support would be, and in first instance contact your local councilor. He should be able to help / point you in the right direction
