I'm posting this again as the link didn't work. However in case this one doesn't the link is that Cameron is setting up a commission to look into the way Europe imposes it's laws on us frequently by using the ECHR , althougth he talked tough in opposition so far he has given way to the Lib/Dems at every turn . He has also appointed Ken Clarke another Euro apologist . We don't need another committee to kick it into the long grass.
I didn't like grinning cat Tony Blair and his human rights wife but at least he was a leader . Cameron is a talker . The link was on the BBC web site .

The human rights act changed nothing either it just gave UK courts the ability to make judgements without people having to trot across to Strassbourg to be heard.

Of course they could withdraw from it and be the only European ountry other than Bellarus to do so and lose just about any shred of credibility and influence with the other European countries - which Cameron is not about to do.

So he'll bluster a lot and do something ineffectual and wrap it up as a success before it all falls apart.

Once again the Tories pull themselves apart because the notion of Europe offends their Patriotic dignity.

The European Court of Human Rights entered into under Harold Wilson's Labour Government, can still override anything judged in Britain.

There's nothing wrong with being a part of Europe and in fact we rely on 50% of our trade with them. The problem comes when they try to dictate social, law issues and human rights.

However if you are not a player you cannot change the rules. Because we never signed up to the Euro we have never been taken seriously by other members so we get what we deserved.

Where and when did we join the EEC or the EU 20 years before TH ?

If that's true why did Ted Heath join up again into it if we were already a member ?
If we were already a member who/why was De Gaule saying Non to us for all those years ?

If that is true why during those years were we a member of EFTA which was separate and independant of the EEC.. and we had to leave it when Heath took us into the EEC.

No answer jake ? I'm not surprised . Here is an extract from his speech :

I assume Jake was referring to the distinction between the european union and The Council of Europe which was founded in 1949 with

Churchill was an instigator of this and UK one of the first signatories long before 'The Common Market'

zeuhl I know what's he doing .He does it all the time to excuse the excessives, of all the EU institutions .
The point is most politicians since WW II knew that peaceful unity was needed in Europe but that did not mean a single over-riding big brother organisation which dictates rules and regulatons to cover every aspect of our lives. That is a dictatorship.
It reduces each country's government to the level of a parish council.
We joined EFTA which would have allowed free trade between members but Heath left it to join the EEC. It was bad then but since then there has been 6 major treaties each one tightening the EUs grip on us. Five of them were agreed by Blair/Brown and Blair also gave away 20% of our rebate.
