I took a tumble 3 weeks ago and have torn a cartilage in my knee. My doctor suggest to wait another 3 weeks to see if it heals itself. How does a cartlilage repair itself ? with a swollen knee, jeans are out and skirts are in....I walk the dogs but not as long or as fast as usual...I am 70 +......and what happens if, after 3 weeks, the repair hasn't happened ? I wish I had asked the doc but didn't think of it at the time...

The diagnosis, hasn´t been confirmed by an Orthopaedic Surgeon or MRI scan.......so it could be any disorder of the knee joint.

A torn cartilage cant heal itself.......cartilage has no blood supply.

I agree with your doctors management of "wait and see" and I presume that he has also given you NSAID such as Ibuprofen.

If after 3 weeks, there is no improvement, then you will need to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
