Bought a new ring last November for my birthday however a stone came out of it and the guy said I could get it replaced or a new ring. Since I had started to dislike the ring I went for a 3 solitaire type of ring - it was £2,000. Anyway the wee young girl sized the second/new ring 2 sizes down from the first ring and last night my hand swelled up a bit with the heat and I found I had to take the ring off.

Now my question if the ring is to be made bigger do I lose gold or is more gold put in. Will they charge me for it. My friend says it is very easy to get the ring made bigger but I am not sure it is straightforward. I should not have allowed this wee girl to downsize the ring 2 sizes - I am livid with myself. First ring size was fine as I have been wearing it from November. And I believe you are better with a bigger than a smaller - help!!!!

I would agree, better with bigger as you can always put a spacer in - too small is no good. I would take it back and explain what happened. Why did the girl size it down? - was it a chilly day when your fingers were thinner? - sounds odd to me, but I wasn't there.
You will not loose any weight in the ring and yes, they will probably charge you unless they're feeling generous.
"do I lose gold or is more gold put in"

Neither, the ring is simply stretched.

so chuckfickens that thins the ring at that price - I also took insurance on it.
chuck is right (as always!), you'll barely see the difference if they do it well.
Thins the ring at that price? It won't affect it's value.

what about the insurance - I would like a completely new ring and the insurance covers everything except theft. I think I will go down the insurance route.
Have you started to dislike this one as well?
Connemmara, I think you will find that your ring not fitting is not insured. The insurance will be for loss or theft or accidental damage - not for it just being made up the wrong size. If you agreed to the smaller sizing at the time, I don't think there is anything you can do, except make your case to the jewellers.

ummmm - love this ring
Just wondering, do you really walk round with two grand's worth of ring on your finger every day? I suppose quite a lot of women must do if they have engagement rings but that would make me really nervous.
Yep....I do :-) Actually mine cost more...
So do I:-) but i never take it off, even in the sea. It's not like I'm going to leave it anywhere
I never take mine off either :-)
I've just had a sapphire replaced in mine, but this is the second time a stone has gone missing, so to be honest, I won't wear it around all the time now. The more I wear it, the more it'll get knocked about I suppose.
