Timing belt or chain

A friend has a Toyota Avensis saloon 1.8 1999. He says the car has a timing belt. I say it has a timing chain. Who is right. Please help

7AFE series AT A221: Belt.

Check the engine model type.

Thank you 4 your quick response. The car has a timing belt. I always taught that all the models use a timing chain.
