Does anyone know about the different little hand-held crossword-solver machines which are now available in such numbers ?
I have a very expensive one which gives me lists and anagrams, but it won't do 15-letter anagrams such as The Times often has, nor will it do partial anagrams
Such as when you put in " carthorse" it not only gives you "Orchestra", but also "Cart"
"Chaste" " search" and so on.
Anyone know a solver machine which will do those anagrams ?

or for anagrams of fewer letters http://www.oneacross....=CARTHORSE&c1=&s=Go+2
I have a franklin collins bradford crossword solve, still only does 14 letters for anagrams but has word builder which will provide all words available from the letters.
You've found it. - AB.

Here's another two online solvers, though I think bibblebub's first recommendation is the best

Has to be a hand-held - online won't do. Gift for someone who does crosswords on buses
I've just spotted your post atalanta. I have a Sharp Electronic Dictionary. It's a bit more pricey than other ones but I love it. You don't have to input all the letters of a long word, as it guesses what you are looking for and gives you the words it might be, saving time.
Also I hate the word "cheating". If you do GK crosswords like I do, there is no way that everyone is knowledgeable about every clue under the sun. It's good fun searching and using the GK you Do have to solve the clue with a little help from this machine.
I would highly recommend it.
Amazon have reduced their prices for crossword solvers this week..

Just out of interest atalanta, why do you consider it cheating?
I think it just fine to find the answer anyway you can and that's how you learn stuff for next time.
My problem is just remembering what I have learnt!
Can't see the point of doing a crossword and referring to a solver. Might just as well wait for the answers and then fill it all in.

having a list of words that fit doesn't necessarily give you the correct answer, particularly with a cyptic crossword, you still have to prove how it fits the clue and helps you learn for next time
I have to do that all the time Mcmouse ... hopefully, eventually, maybe one day, the answers will sink in.
