We're hopefully going to be in a position to spend up to about £2000 on a secondhand tow car within the next few months and are really looking forward to being able to get our caravan out on the road again.
Our last car, a Nissan Serena, we towed with for a year, but then it failed its MOT due to some really serious corrosion on the suspension. Naturally we don't want a repeat of that, although we understand that our budget doesn't allow us to be too choosy, but can anyone recommend something suitable to look for? Our caravan is a two-berth, 14ft., and we'd need enough space inside the car to pack in all our music gear at other times, so possibly looking at a large estate car. Saying that, we wouldn't rule out a suitable van or minibus.
Thanks guys. Hubby likes the idea of the Volvo, and we'll have a look at the Fiat.
R1, don't worry - we'll try not to hold you up. We were caravan-haters for many years until we figured out it was our only way of getting a cheap holiday.
I tow our 15ft two berth with a Skoda Superb 1.9 turbo diesel ( almost the same as a Passat/ Audi A4).
Outstanding towcar. Stable, 55mpg solo, 33mpg towing and will easily pull all day at 70mph with the 'van behind.
Said he's already had a quick look at the Skoda and likes it. We've owned other Skodas in the past too.
Mind you, I'm not sure he's quite got the idea of this. He's now talking about going half shares with his equally daft mate in ... a Bugatti Veyron estate!!!
Maybe I should sell the caravan and buy a motorhome. :-D
Landy discovery. best 4x4xfar. would not swap mine for anything. will pull the hind legs off a donkey. comfort, ride height, towing ability. cracking truck!!!!!
Supapapa. It certainly is against the law and I wouldn't dream of doing 70mph with my caravan. I always stick to 60 on motorways, just like all car drivers stick to the 70 limit.
