I have a dozen eggs marked 'best before' 24/03. Can I use them without being ill?

Sure, as long as they aren't cracked
You'd know as you broke them if they were off. They don't go off at the strike of midnight.
I meant to add, they make better meringues and egg custards set better than really fresh eggs
They are most likely fine. The best test is to place them in a bowl of water-if they sink they are fine. So is tipping up slightly. Floating indicates air, and a lack of freshness.

Of course they are fine. Today is 25th! It only says best before and not dont use after. There are many of us here who were brought up long before anything had sell by dates or best before dates. We survived due to the efficiency of the Mark One Nose. If it smells good it is and that combined with how it looks is all the filtering needed to keep us alive. The shops have a different agenda. They want us to throw out and purchase again more quickly than we otherwise would.

the only thing with old eggs is they don't plain fry well and the whites don't whisk up well because they get less gelatinous as they get older but apart from that, if not off they will be fine
Probably OK for at least another month. We used to keep eggs for ages years ago and that was in larders, not fridges (showing my age here!!)
Lottie beat me to it.

I've often used out of date eggs & have we've never suffered by it. Must admit to otherwise being a stickler for using other dairy products within date, or throwing them out.
As long as they are kept as cool as possible, they have a long shelf life.
