Anyone see the Neil Morrissey programme last night?
About his experience of being in a children's home and his juvenile (minor) delinquence? Very interesting and touching, Neil came across very well - he's not just a jack the lad comedy actor.

I used to work with a lady who (along with her two brothers) suffered terribly under nuns at an Irish childrens home - it was totally barbaric what they put those kids through, my heart broke for her, she said she could never have a proper relationship as she didn't know how to love.
Yes sandy, the authorities were checking on the family, and apparently the house was in a disgustingly filthy state. Neil and his brother did a spate of petty thievery, but obviously would have progressed to worse things.
Those poor boys who went to Riverbank, makes me feel sick.
My adopted sister was in and out of a home in Surrey (in the early 50's)and when my mum used to visit her (before we adopted her) the house mother was awful, so my mum created a stink and they got rid of the horrible one, and had a much nicer one. Mum used to pop there without any warning to check on them!!
