Why are the staff of these places upset about not having the day off for the RW?It just does not seem feasible to me to allow staff the day off, it is a business they are running after all

Hope the Ed will be on holiday :)
Another stupid idea of DC. He's not paying for it. A bit like his Big Society. Someone else to work/pay for nothing . Why should struggling companies pay for DC's freebies.
I run a shop and will be closing on the Bank Holiday (it is a small town and very few shops will be open).

Please note however, that there is no legal entitlement to having bank holidays off. Your holiday entitlement is to a set period of days per year - a lot of employers (like me) can and will insist that some of those days are taken on bank holidays.

A friend of mine who worked in retails always complained about shops opening and having to work on a Sunday. However she never used to complain about bar staff working if she was down the pub!

Another friend works at M&S - they are open on the Friday from 1 - 5pm
Why doesn't it suprise me that civil servants are automatically given the day off?
These workers should get real.....retail business is having a difficult time. Any worker who objects should be 'offered every day off' permanently.
Why doesn't it surprise me that the Mirror has errors in it's copy:

"The small-but-importance difference"

It's pretty poor for a national newspaper.

All the best,

Spare
"Why doesn't it surprise me that the Mirror has errors in it's (sic) copy:" Kettle and pot spring to mind...
