... and the present Mrs Hughes is away for three more weeks, and doesn't understand the 'Holy Grail' of finding music you have searched for ...
Two pieces of classical guitar music hve elduded me since I heard them at a friend's house one summer afternoon, and I never asked him the titles, and we are no longer in touch - long story. These two pieces capture the mood of that day, and those times, the girl I was with, the friends I loved.
I have borrowed endless CD's from libraries, listened to dozens of stree players all over Europe, hoping that someone would play one of these pieces,. so I would know what they are called and today ...
I found 'Asturias' by accident on You Tube this afternoon, and I was so happy!
Then, tonight, after I played it again on my PC, I stumbled on 'Spanish Romance' so I have my two pieces of instant memory back again.
I have waited thirty-four years to find these pieces of music. I am off to bed now - just wanted to share my god fortune. Night all xx
Here's one of my former pupils playing 'Granada' for you, which I thought you might like. (Unfortunately I can't claim any credit for him becoming a professional classical guitarist. I taught him cricket!)
That's amazing, I once scoured everywhere until I found Asturias too. I had seen it on mtv years ago, a player wearing glasses was playing it in what looked like a venetian scene with romantic couples. It is a stunning piece of music and skill. Glad you found it for your memory gap! It must be on youtube, I'm gonna look.
I think it's great when you come across the answer to something you've wanted to know for a long time. I'm pleased for you.......... So this is what you do when Mrs Hughes is away. :-))
Andy i know exactly how you feel. When DH and I were first married he had a bootleg cassette tape of two of the "Rock Machine" series which were cheapo samplers of then current bands. Those tapes were the soundtrack to our courtship and early married years. Eventually the tape crumbled and no one had replacements. Last year I found the vinyl versions on Amazon so I gave them to DH with a record deck that can transfer vinyl to MP3. Happy happy joy joy!
