Now that it's all over & the results shown, does anyone agree with me that possibly A/V lost not because people prefered FPTP but they didn't like the alternative on offer ? It is my opinion that had we been offered the chance to vote for P/R the results of a referendum would have been vastly different.Ron.

I don't agree ron, but each to their own - I am perfectly happy with FPTP.
I too am happy with FPTP but I am not so sure that a No to AV equals a Yes for FPTP. I think a No to AV means just that and nothing more in a lot of cases.
I think we're all fed up with AV and PR.

In any case, it only matters when there are more than 2 parties capable of forming a Government. The Lib Dems have shown that they are not.
I would have considered PR, AV was a no-brainer.
PR would have gone the same way as it destroys the link between elector and MP, leaving those chosen at the whim of party hacks.
I prefer FPTP
In these modern times I'd like to see a complete overhaul of the way we vote. Apathy keeps many away from the polling booths, so straight away the vote isn't representative anyway, just those that voted. Surely there must be a way that would enable voting online which would help that issue - they sorted something for the census, so why not voting.

And I personally am not happy with FPTP when it's a low figure
I think that maybe a lot of people don't understand AV voting!
I had a postal vote which makes it easier for me to vote as dont think I would have bothered to "get up & go".I dont think they made the explanation of the new idea very clear to some people especially elderly ladies, I help out at one of their clubs and not one of them could grasp it.
Dee Sa When a top journalist for the BBC does not understand it they are bound to pass on duff information to other members of the public.
