Is this possible? This is the 3rd time in the past 9 months I have a problem with a knee. I don't actually have to do anything it just 'goes' and swells and is painful. My osteopath is able to put it right, like he can a tennis elbow. Can't get an appointment for another week but wondering if the causes are like those for a tennis elbow (repeated movements and dehydration)

It is only called tennis elbow if it is in the elbow.

The quaint name for what you have is Housemaids Knee......but it is the same thing

Thanks mrs o. Tennis elbow was the only way I could explain it. Will google housemaid's knee.
Good luck xx
Question Author
Just googled it and it isn't that as the pain is at the back of the knee and not on the kneecap.
It's NOT Housemaids Knee and it is nothing to do with do with dehydration.

It sounds like something amiss in the knee joint itself..e.g, loose body OR a tear of the cartilage.

See your GP has you will probably need an MRI scan to identify the problem.

Yes, sqad, my GP did mention an MRI scan when it happened first time but due to circumstances didn't bother and my osteopath relieved the problem. it's probably due to stress as it happens when I'm most stressed up.
OK, so my 1979 St Johns First Aid certificate didn't come in handy this time round...

Strange, as last night on getting up from the armchair something moved in my knee and the pain went!! It's fine today. What can it be?
I mentioned that in my post........maybe a "loose body" (piece of cartilage or bone)
