I would try some Seleen or Malaseb shampoo either from the vet or online which should help either way.

Firstly...dogs don't get nits they get fleas and the 'mess' from fleas is black bits not white.
You have just discovered the joys of being owned by a black dog I'm afraid....just like a car they show up every bit of dirt going!
I good rub down with a rubber mitt daily will bring the scurf out then wipe over with a damp cloth...that said as soon as he shakes it'll bring it to the surface again!
A bath will help and as long as you are calm it won't traumatise him for life and the fish oils are good too!
I have a rescue Dane who is black and later on today he will be getting his first wash down in the garden...wish me luck!!!

Our black and white greyhound gets exactly what has been described here-dandruff on her back, near to her tail. She came like that, it doesn't affect her, and the more i scuff it up the more comes, so we just leave it. As has been said, with them having thin coats, I think their natural scurf is just a bit more visible.
