password after virus

trying to system restore main pc after virus attack but keeps telling me I have no authority cos im not the administrator, anyone help please ? thanks

Check the XP Users Accounts in Control Panel (You are on XP?)
See if you are listed as an Administrator.
If not .. and there is another administrator account available, log back in onto that one
Hopefully it is not passworded (as you would need it if it is)

hi it is xp. When you go into the admin it asks for password but there has never been one

Yes .. but is there another admin account shown? .. and what happens if you just leave blank and enter?

when we double click on icons instead of opening up a box appears and says open with ... (what programe) so we open it up as run as then it comes up with which user account do u want to use this programe defaulting on current user (admin) thats as far as we can go, it says we are not the administrator
