Why is it...?

If I went to a doctor and told him there were voices in my head telling me to do something, I would get put away in a loony-bin. If instead I told him that God was telling me to do something I wouldn't get put away.
This doesn't seem fair to me and should be rectified immediately.

Loony-bin? Are you still allowed to say that?
What are you being told what to do sanak?

I'm not sure Mike. No doubt some government department will have ruled that the phrase violates someone's human rights. However, my home is a PC-free zone so it is still OK.
the seoond part doesnt ring true either
Human rights, not another one.
Did you see the TV programme tonight ITV on that subject?

No. What was it called?
I've got voices in my head telling me I must have another gin and tonic.
I will obey,Oh Master!

Mike,
Your voices are better than mine. Mine tell me to go to a remote tribe in a rainforest and convince them that a bunch of goat-herders who lived in the desert 2000 years ago know better than they do about how to run their lives and society.
I don't really want to go so maybe I shouldn't tell the doctor that it's a message from God and then they will house me in a nice place somewhere.

Don't forget to dribble and play with your lip while talking to the Doc. Works for me every time. Four weeks' free board and lodging, courtesy of the NHS.

I'm practicing it now. If I say so myself, it's going remarkably well.
Apologies for the slobber on this post.

We weren't talking to you HM. If the best you can manage is a tired old cliche then please take your dullness elsewhere. Thanks.

I have heard it reported that some criminals use the 'god made me do it' as a legal defense. Not sure if it was successful.

"I have heard it reported that some criminals use the 'god made me do it' as a legal defense. Not sure if it was successful. "

I think the God defense works about as well as the Devil defense.
Sadly my nephew has had voices come into his head telling him to join his wife to become a Jehovah's Witness....I thought he was an intelligent bloke....evidently not:-(
If you are up in Court for an offence, and you say that God told you to do it, they think you are mad.

But when you go into the witness box, you have to "swear by the Almighty God" ... and God requires that you tell the truth.
