Why is my reading so high?
10 Answers
I have type 2 diabetes and take insulin and metformin in the morning. Today, after breakfast, ( weetabix, prunes, tea and brown toast) I had a 30 min walk and a trip round the shops. When I got home, my blood was 17.3, far too high. What can I do?

Are you coming down with a cold or other infection? That can affect your blood glucose. Is your machine working ok? There are usually fluids provided to test it is providing true readings.
hi lyn
as sqad says it could be something to do with the dawn phenomonen, so what was your reading before you ate your breakfast?
also, there was probably too many carbohydrates in that one meal -
the weetabix is 30g carbs per 30g serving.
also remember theres carbs in milk too, about 11g in 250ml, and did you have any sugar on them?
toast has an average of 15g carbs per slice
(how many of each did you have? and did you just have butter or did you have jam on your toast?)
what was the portion size of the prunes? theyre 8g carbs per 25g, so not too bad.
soooo, if you tot up the approximate amount of carbs you had, that might be the answer to the high reading. (can you let us know if you get to read this?)
it would be best if you had either the cereal OR the toast. having both isnt really ideal when trying to control blood sugar levels.
remember, more carbs = more insulin = more weight.
