I am 35 and have been suffering from a pain on the right side of my chest for over a week now.

I havent strained any muscles or taken a dig in the ribs but it really hurts when I breath in deeply.

Any ideas what it could be?

you need to be going to a dr for advice not asking for it on here.... any chest pains should be looked at  by a proffesiional just to put your mind at ease x
My brother in law broke a rib last week and doesnt remember how he did it so do go to the doc vespaboy asap.
Chances are m8 that you have strained or pulled a muscle....i remember my dad getting carted off to hospital after pulling a chest muscle and we all thought he'd had a heart attack.

Go get it checked by the quack but i wouldn't be too concerned, you're not showing any signs of heart probs.

Good luck
Best advice is to seek professional help, but if it hurts only when you breathe in it could well be pluerisy or more accurately, plueritis.  The double-layered pleura protects and lubricates the surface of the lungs as they inflate and deflate within the rib cage. Normally, a thin, fluid-filled gap -- the pleural space -- allows the two layers of the pleural membrane to slide gently past each other. But when these layers become inflamed, their roughened surfaces rub painfully together like two pieces of sandpaper with every breath, sneeze, and cough. But... be sure to get it checked...Best of luck!

some times you only have to put your back out by a millimetre - not something you'd even notice doing - and it can twist a rib and produce this effect. In that case an osteopath may be able to help. But Lisax is right, better see a GP first to make sure it's not something else.
seek advice from your GP or the Out of Hours - could be anything, but might be something that needs treating urgently with Antiboitics - don't leave it too long

could just be chest infection go to the Docs.

But, it could be muscular, if it started suddenly and you are not short of breath, dizzy or coughing; maybe you slept funny, or have been doing something repetitive that you don't remember that has resulted in a little strain.  Clanad could be right too, I know someone who had full pleurisy and she couldn't walk straight due to the pain.  Just go to the docs if it shows no sign of letting up.

Could also be spontaneous pneumothorax - def need to see GP
