I think a campaign should be started to boycott self service checkouts in supermarkets. It's just another step in de-humanising the shopping experience plus the fact that in a few years time there will be need for checkout workers so even less employment opportunity for those who are not academically minded.
Let's face facts. Self service checkouts were introduced with the longer term benefit (to the supermarkets) of reducing costs. Nothing less.
Which means savings on employment costs.
Which means cutting jobs and employment opportunities.
Staff found supporting these self service tills are merely there as part of a customers education programme. As soon as it's thought the customer can cope these people will lose their jobs.
