My wife is trying to grow these from seed but as soon as the first leaves appear something is eating them. There is no sign of slugs or snails. Ideas, please?

try covering the seedlings overnight with a glass...if they are still being eaten it is probably slugs ....some types are very small and not seen during the day... Try getting them established using the individual greenhouse approach cut the bottom from a large pop bottle and place over the seedling leave the cap off so they don't go mouldy....
