Hey guys, Ive just baked some cupcakes and I used 4 eggs one of which the best before date was the 16th, (the rest are way in date) I smelt it and it smelt fine, and it looked fine...but Im now worried that it may be off purely cos of the date...any ideas?!! (The eggs have been kept in the fridge) And even if it was off surely one egg in a cake mix well cooked would be ok...maybe??!!! Thanks....
next time you want to check if an egg is off put it in water. If it floats its off, if it sinks its fine. Putting in fridge makes no difference, they arent in fridges in supermarkets are they?
The reason why they are not in the fridge in supermarkets is because they don't hang around on the shelves all that long. At home it's a bit different. If you only use a few eggs per week-refrigerate. But if you have them every day,it's not necessary.
Like 4get says-use the water test-it's totally reliable.
