Can anyone identify this novelist?

She wrote some wickedly funny crime novels, a mixture of Miss Marple and Tom Sharpe. It is over 13 years since I read one, but the only thing I can remember is a scene set in a cathedral in which the lady deacons (new at the time) had to parade around exclaiming, "I proclaim myself lesbian and witch".

At the risk of getting shot down in flames- surely a musician is someonewho plays a musical instrument for a living?.....e.g. what do you do for a living (answer) I am a musician I play in a band/orchestra - whatever..
