Luggage labels

Have just received our flight tickets from Thomson travel ,booklet much thinner than usual due to fact they have not enclosed any luggage labels.Is this another economy drive to save money.?

you dont really need luggage labels as when you check in your case gets a full label.

If you need to put your details on the case i would suggest just your postcode and perhaps house number only.

Thomas Cook no longer provide luggage labels as they consider that the baggage tags provided by the airline contain all the required information for tracking your luggage should it go astray.
For security reasons you should not put your home address on luggage labels.

As the others have said, luggage labels are considered to be an unecessary announcement that you are away from home. Too easy to read on the way to the airport of by people hanging around there.

Do your best to tell as few people as possible the exact dates of your holiday, save it for when you're back.

If you do want to put your name and address on your cases then print sticky labels and stick one inside the case. Also you could use a security pen (visible only under ultra-violet light) to write your House Number and Post Code anywhere on the outside.

Most leather luggage labels have a little flap over the address so it wouldn`t be read by anyone. As for airport baggage handlers going to your house and ransacking it because they`ve seen your address on a label and know you`re away, well that`s stuff of movies. I`ve heard of plenty of stings on baggage handlers who have stolen from suitcases but I have never heard of baggage handler burglers!

I just put a piece of paper inside with the address I'm going abroad, and then another one with my works address for the journey home. That way, no-one does know my address, but if my case should get lost then they will be able to contact me and return it to me.

The old style reversible luggage labels had spaces for departure flight details and destination address. The "return" side of the label, which was recommended to be left blank until the start of the return journey, had sapce for flight details and home address.
Since Thomson have now stopped providing labels I make my own, following the plan outlined above.

until I got a solid suitcase I always had it film wrapped at the airport - but I go to Africa where theft and slipping things into luggage is not unheard of. It acts a a bit of a deterrent if nothing else.
