Antibodies

A pub quiz question was which organ of the body produces antibodies? The answer given was the spleen, yet you can have that organ removed and still live. We thought that the answer should have been the liver.
Any opinions?

I have a disease related to one of these, IgA which is found mainly in the gastric tract. Some doctors have discovered that progression of the disease can be slowed or halted by removal of the tonsils, apparently that's where a lot of it is produced. Maybe, as with pub quizes I've attended, the 'official' answer is largely true but not 100% correct.
