A pub quiz question was which organ of the body produces antibodies? The answer given was the spleen, yet you can have that organ removed and still live. We thought that the answer should have been the liver.

Any opinions?

The answer is the spleen. Thats why when you have your spleen removed your on pills for the rest of your life to help you fight infection.
I may be wrong but I thought antibodies were the same as immunoglobulins (proteins) of which there are five classes.  I have a disease related to one of these, IgA which is found mainly in the gastric tract.  Some doctors have discovered that progression of the disease can be slowed or halted by removal of the tonsils, apparently that's where a lot of it is produced.  Maybe, as with pub quizes I've attended, the 'official' answer is largely true but not 100% correct.
